Can you help to save Sutherland's landscape from the second Highland Clearances? We need your help. Please, act now, to help save this special place.
A developer, Wind Prospect, is planning to build a wind farm comprising 27 turbines, each 126 metres high to tip and each generating 3MW, in the Braemore wood area which lies between the A839 Rosehall / Lairg Road and Invershin power station. The total generating potential is 81MW. More information is on the developers site http://braemorewindfarm.co.uk/
Note how they don't show the other windfarms that are next to this proposed development, or detail the objection dates / process. Don't be fooled, either, into thinking that the objecting on their online "community consultation" will be registered as a formal objection - it won't.
We already have 38 TURBINES in our area from two adjacent wind farms. To add ANOTHER 27 mega size turbines would overwhelm the landscape.
The Kyle of Sutherland is a very special rural and fragile, community, which lies on the western edge of the Dornoch Firth National Scenic Area. Anybody who has visited Sutherland, will have wondered at its unspoilt beauty. This is what brings over 25,000 visitors a year to Carbisdale Castle Youth Hostel alone.
This project places the rights of landowners and electricity generators above those of local residents and those that seek out unspoilt natural landscapes. This is history repeating itself, like the Second Highland Clearances; where local folk are being ridden roughshod, driven by industrial "improvement".
KoSAB is not anti-wind. We recognise the need across the UK for a blend of electrical generating capacity. We are however, totally against the destruction of a landscape, which provides significant tourist revenue to local communities. With two windfarms already approved and under construction, we believe that this area already supports enough wind generation capacity and that this scheme will prove the tipping point, saturating and overwhelming the rural nature of the area.
If, like us, you are appalled at the scale of the development and the cumulative impact it will have on our community, please help. We can STOP this development, but we need your help.
They think that a small community can be ignored, or bought with a dicretionary minor payment. We believe that together we can make a difference. It happened recently, when the UK Government was forced to make U-Turn over selling off forests. The developer of this project has been stating that they are "not getting any feedback that it is unpopular". We know this is not the case and, with your help, we can show that there are many many people, normally silent, who do not want any further development in this very special place.
Thank you for your help.
